APO33 is a collective of artists formed in 1997 to provide a space for research reflection and artist production in relation to sound (electronic music, concrete music, sound poetry, improvised music, sound art…). Apo33’s objective as a sound creation collective is to invent new ways of writing sound, i.e. to open new ways of structuring time and space, by discovering the opportunities existing in the new technologies as well as the potentiality, still mostly undiscovered, offered by the analogical and the electronical. The inclusion of apo33’s activities into the history of experimental sound practices has led us (because we wanted to go beyond the simple ’experimental’ level) to begin a more general reflection on our relationship with technique, knowledge and collective production. If, first of all, our activity was basically founded on sound creation, we expanded it to cover experimentation involving the frameworks and contexts of art practice, the conditions in which we produce and receive art, and the research on how we can reclaim the tools that allow us to produce art. What is at stake is the position of art practice considered as a potential engine to reappropriate frames and means of production of symbolic content that influence our everyday life. Through experimentation, art practice helps us inventing other ways of life and communication.
