Process

When I heard the vocals the first time, it reminded me of that scene in the movie Blade where they're in this men's club, and there are these two Japanese chicks dancing and screaming vocals to this droning drum n bass track. This is not a reflection on the quality of the vocals...just my twisted mind's interpretation of what would go good with them. So I selected a nice low bassy square waveform sound, and started building on it. I created three different versions of the squarewave bassline...one with a single generator, one with two generators detuned, and one with all generators in unison. This is how I was able to 'open' up the sound in 3 different spots in the track to build the energy. All the rest was like normal...play around with different sounds and create sequences. I have three different drum modules running in this track, so the beat is more complex than it may seem. I like alot of subtle nuances going on in the drum track. I got a random hihat effect by loading a hihat sample into a sampler, applying resonance, lowering the cutoff, and then passing the cutoff through a lfo modulator with a white noise waveform, so it sounds like the hihats change tone randomly. That little fillin with the hihats near the middle of the song was done by laying down 32 hihat hits, then drawing a velocity 'ramp' to slowly bring them in, and then drawing a stereo pan that was sync'd to the beat.
