I am lucky enough to see many whales in my part of the world, mostly humpbacks and southern right whales and their size and majesty always astounds me.
Thank you to Oscar Frey for the wonderful recordings and commentary.

When he posted the whale samples I put them on loop and played them as I went to sleep not knowing what I could do with them.
When I woke up in the morning (the wife thought I was snoring) it was crystal clear.

The first thing I noticed was the call and response.

The second thing was that most of the calls repeat at a BPM of around 130 to 135 BPM (or 65 to 68 if your that way inclined)

Amongst the trumpets, whistles and some disconcerting noises right out of an Alien movie was a really cool drone sound in the key of G.
I loaded this sample into the synth and this became the big dark pad that pushes its way through this song. The bass is also a whale note.

Sung the vocal live while I played the piano part, because I always wanted to pretend I was Elton doing the Lion King soundtrack lol

Anyway enough of the process, here’s the lyrics and I hope you like the song.
