I have a confession to make. I made this track with the deliberate intention of ripping off the style of another song. It was a click and piano instrumental piece that appeared on one of my Brave New Waves Mix Tapes. I can’t remember what it’s called or who it’s by, but it’s still on a cassette in my bottom drawer.

In the end, I created something different enough not to count as plagiarism, though to call it original is a bit of a stretch.

At any rate, I manipulated the audio in some pretty strange ways, though the end result doesn’t sound all that experimental. The piano just didn’t sound natural, so I made it sound even less natural, and somehow it worked. Percussion came from Nurykabe’s fascinating noises, as well as funny sounds I made with my mouth. The entire song was recorded and mixed at 130 BPM, then the mix was slowed down a few steps and compression and reverb were added.

I intend to play the whole thing through my computer speakers and record it with my microcassette recorder, then use that as the basis for a different mix.

The title is a reference to this lecture.
