City Life

i’m walking down the block
i’m in the city-scape
chasing down a break
out here to meet my fate

every day is new
every day is change
have to ride the tidal wave
as all things rearrange

stores they come and go
stories write themselves
neighbors lived in heaven
now they’re in a living hell

this city has a life
a life that’s all it’s own
that neighborhood was live
till it died, dead and gone

by accident out in the street

they’re shooting grown adults
they’ll say “it’s not my fault”
cops push em in the car
lock em in the vault

then march off to court
get charges for their sins
the lives they took you know
they’re never coming back again

now some will feel remorse
others just shrug it off
but either way the game they played
it was a total loss
