I must admit I have a pretty jaundiced view about marriage having been down the aisle several times.

I am sure for some there is real bliss but for most of us it’s just buying bread.

Well she woke and told me she was leaving
I replied those are the best words you ever said
Oh no she laughed I didn’t mean that
I’m only going out to buy some bread

I said oh shit I thought you were serious fully packed and on your way
I thought happy times had come
She told me to stop all my joking
But I was serious nothing said for fun

Well there was a time when we danced
held each other close a real romance
Told our friends we were a pair
Everything we had we wanted to share
There were flowers for no reason chocolates and cards
Lots of crazy moments without trying to hard
Hugs and kisses and lots lots more
Never answered phones or knocks on doors

Ah but then it all went wrong
Love got broke love was not strong
Silence replaced laughter tears replaced joy
Inevitability destroyed the girl and boy

Oh what can I say this is nothing unusual
It happens to all of us some day
But some remain living life in an imperfect bubble
But others burst it and run away

Once we were perfect and lived the dream
I was the king and you were the queen
Living in a castle the best you’ve seen
We lived in a land of peaches and cream
But now we live in a dark dark place
Sometimes love but too much hate
We live seperate lives
You with your friends me with mine

So its down we go down to the bottom
The bottom of the wishing well
But all the people got here before us
The well’s got nothing left to tell
And so we stumble on like John and Jane
We’re pretty anonymous just like all the rest
We keep looking for that magic moment
But all it is is buying bread
