HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY ccMIXTER!!!
State Shirt’s source material is fantastic — clean, varied and well produced. As I went through his catalog, I stopped combing once I found Chemma Chi — the atmosphere and sounds he created for that song resonated with me. So I downloaded those stems, with no real direction or idea of what would happen. As I started the track, I was mindful that this is the “music connects us” secret mixter in honor of ccMixter’s 10 year anniversary, so it was not surprising to me that the lyrical theme that emerged as I built the track is consistent with that idea. I intended to use Anjibee’s “We are Connected” — a simple vocal snippet that is thematically perfect — but it was not the right key. Given my technical limitations, it was simpler for me to re-sing the lines. Speck’s Roll Call was a super way to bring in voices of ccMixter. Also fitting is Porchcat’s “Sacred Cube Family” which touches on some of what makes ccMixter such a special place (“I love men and women I never met, except in song”). I think it is also fitting to include Porchcat as I believe it was his inspiration to start the secret mixter event which has become one of my favorite ccMixter events. I look forward to the secret mixter every time! Special thanks to Haskel for lending his splendid guitar stylings. I will get the stems up soon.
