Most producers are happy to have the bass player spending his time around the root note of the tune. Any attempt by the player to go beyond this is usually frowned upon. The next thing you know the drummer will start throwing in the odd fast paced paradiddles and the singer going into scat phrases. Here there’s no problem as we let Bill(call me Jaco) have free reign over a 6 string bass.
