Hey Rob you did a cool thing here—especially as you had to improvise the rhythm track instrumentation. And yet you managed to get a live band feel! I like the texture of the flute too—seems very tactile. Yeah—great!

Thanks mate. Yeah, there are only five holes in a shakuhachi so you have to partially cover to get half-notes. You play up an octave by changing the tightness of your lips and sharpness of breath. The plus-side is that you get a very human breathiness and all kinds of overtones on every note. I’m only a beginner but I’m loving it!

Hi Rob—yeah, I’d heard they’re a bugger to play, but they’ve got a great sound. Stick at it—you’re doing well. I listened to this twice and really enjoyed it. Cheers!

I really like your jazz stylings. This is a finished piece. I wouldn’t mess with it anyway (though I might use parts of it in other things).
