	. permalink robwalkerpoet Thu, Jun 28, 2012 @ 2:29 PM Thanks mate. Yeah, there are only five holes in a shakuhachi so you have to partially cover to get half-notes. You play up an octave by changing the tightness of your lips and sharpness of breath. The plus-side is that you get a very human breathiness and all kinds of overtones on every note. I’m only a beginner but I’m loving it!
