Sublime avian mix, Gurdonark.
My fav feathered companion this time of year (in these parts) is the “rainbird” or Koel (a type of Cuckoo). These guys fly south from Indonesia every summer, get high on fermented berries and stink bugs, party hard and lay their eggs in an unsuspecting wattlebird’s nest. The offspring are soon much bigger than the foster parents and turf out the other offspring. When on the prowl, the males find the tallest tree in the neighborhood @ 2am, and sing a hook like nothing you’ve heard before, getting louder and bolder with each verse until my neighbor comes out with his BB gun.
Here’s a link to my local “top 40”. Mr Koel deserves the number one spot (with a bullet!?#@%*)
Also getting plenty of airplay this time of year is the Magpie and Currawong and the Kookaburra (esp after I’ve just uploaded my latest to CCM)
I have wanted to include these sounds in my music for a long time but when I’ve tried, I end up with a dozen different birds tapping their beaks on the studio window wanting sex…

Thank you so much for sharing those birdsong links. I love to hear birdsong from different places—and that page is really well organized. My hope is that over time more people will contribute more birdsong to the Freesound Project, so that CC samples of many species are there.

I love the kookaburra laugh, but there are so many birds down under whose songs I do not know.

This mix reminds me of my original green screen game boy, playing doctor mario chasing those fast paced dropping pills. I was kinda mesmerized by the music hear, its happy chirpy up beat sound is refreshing listen amidst the other (more mainstream) mixes at cc. This is why i love this place !

I have mentioned before, but your mixes like this, manic, sad, busy, playful and all the time delivered with gravitas, they are my favorites.

A little late to this one G. I was away when it went up. I think you have captured the size and speed of the kestrel in this mix. Even it’s body markings are a little bit busy, and it has a beautiful face. Really neat bit of work, sort of funky-ambient/minimalist. Nice work :-).
