So here I am at home with an eye infection (both eyes). I can’t go to work because I’m contagious. The Doc says it could last up to 3 weeks. That means no pay from work. : ( So I thought I’d take a stab at Shannon’s beautiful voice while I have the free time.
This is sort of a movie soundtrack vibe (like when the credits are rolling at the end of a movie).

One of my best friends (from Sweden) who is brutally honest with my music thought that this was “over the top”. I tried to explain to him that this wasn’t intended to be a pop tune but more of something that would be featured in film or soundtrack. He didn’t seem to get my point so if you’re wondering about all the big drum fills and sweeping strings…that’s why I did it.

I changed the melody to a minor key with Melodyne but I still had some problems with various artifacts being produced when I shifted notes. There is a wrong note in the melody towards the end but Melodyne wouldn’t let me change it without it sounding like a chipmunk being strangled! There might be issues with EQ etc. but I guess it sounds okay enough to listen to. I almost titled it “Pink Eyes Mix” ; ) Hope you like it.

Editorial pick

I have never picked a Lasswell mix for some obvious reasons but also because they often find their way to the top without further promotion.

So why this one, well besides its majestic mellow grace its a fine example of conversations we have had about classic songwriting. A reflection of time when you did not need the latest drum sound or sample or vocal trick to be recognised.

It was all in the skill of the writer, arranger and performer.

Just like here in `Skyline’.
