ccMixter’s new logo, designed by community artist Airtone

Hey Mixters! We are so excited to present you with ccMixter’s new logo, designed by our very own Airtone. Tomorrow we will share an interview between spinningmerkaba and airtone that gives insight into airtone’s creative process and the journey that got us to our new look.

Our new logo is part of our new trademark agreement with the Creative Commons organization — that grants ccMixter full autonomy moving forward. Our community will have more flexibility, independence and opportunities to do what we do best — create music together.

In the spirit of our newly independent relationship with Creative Commons, we’ve updated our CC licenses in our submit forms to 4.0.

Join our livestream tomorrow at 2pm Eastern to ask questions and join the mixversation!

Here is the press release:

ArtisTech Media and Creative Commons Announce a New Trademark Agreement for ccMixter

With a new logo and more independence, ccMixter outlines emerging opportunities for its global community of collaborative musicians.

When Creative Commons joined forces with Wired Magazine to launch ccMixter.org in 2004 they sparked a movement in music that created a lasting legacy in remix culture. Now, eighteen years later, the ccMixter community is springboarding off that legacy into its next phase of music creation, one that connects musicians, content creators and fans in ever-more meaningful ways. And it all begins with a newly designed logo.

ccMixter’s new logo paired with a new tagline “collaborative community” features two C’s inside a shiny vinyl record, visually representing its collective music library of more than 65,000 original mixes, samples and a cappellas. The new logo was designed by England-based community member Airtone, a talented musician with an instantly recognizable sound.

“Today we’re celebrating an exciting new chapter for ccMixter,” remarked Emily Richards, CEO of ArtisTech Media. “Our history with Creative Commons and its licenses built a solid foundation for our community’s culture of sharing. We’re ready to take our creative collaboration to yet another level.”

ccMixter’s marks, terms and format have been decided upon by both Creative Commons and ArtisTech Media since 2009. Under the new agreement, ccMixter will be operated solely by ArtisTech Media moving forward.

“We are delighted that ccMixter can now be independently stewarded by the expert hands of Emily and her colleagues at ArtisTech Media,” stated Catherine Stihler, CEO of Creative Commons. “Better sharing and the ability for us to work together with like-minded organizations further increases the value of the commons for generations to come. We wish Emily and her colleagues well and know that the commons is stronger for our working together to enable this project to live and grow in their hands.”

The revised trademark agreement and updated logo introduce a new phase of opportunities for ccMixter’s community of artists.

Thanks Apoxode, there’s a few things to sort out with the CSS on the site, so on a hi-res display it might look a bit blurred at the moment, but hopefully we will sort this in the next few weeks.

Make one without then? I think there is support for it though, i can remember in inkscape it would also preserve shadows
