Existing Share-Alike Concerns

Now, I have noticed some share-alike and sampling material is still floating around. Some of my uploaded mixes have been forced into one license or the other on upload, without option to select another license.
My question is this: Can I be assured that all of the content I uploaded is legal, with compatible licenses? What happens if I upload a song that has samples from a BY-SA license and from a BY-NC license? Would the ccHost software force it into a BY-SA license? Wouldn’t that be a violation of the BY-NC license, by way of releasing used material under a less restrictive license? How does the ccHost software determine when I must release a remix track under a certain license? Sorry for the PITA questions on the topic. I just want to make sure I’m doing the "right" thing in having my efforts licensed correctly without violating another artist’s rights. *meow* |

This song is licensed under the Sampling+ license. Oranges (version 1) http://ccmixter.org/media/f... is uploaded to the site under the Sampling+ license. (Please see comments in Features/Public Domain licenses.) I am guessing using this sample forced my upload into that license (as I was given no other choice). Truth Force Drone is used in the mix and it is under a BY-NC license. http://ccmixter.org/media/f... Granados: Spanish Dance n. 2 http://ccmixter.org/media/f... is similarly a noncommercial work. *meow* |

I am not a lawyer and I don’t give legal advice.
meanwhile, there are inconsistancies (and appearantly some bugs in the code as you may point out) the good news about the whole mess is that 100% of the by-nc-sa material is rooted in Magnatune and we’ve been in talks with them to sort through any of the issues that might be still be lurking. There is an ongoing re-license campaign that we started last fall to have folks convert their Sampling licensed material to by to by-nc (for logged in users: http://ccmixter.org/media/r... ) that could probably use another round of action on our part. Just keep making and posting great remixes. Thanks, VS |

Also thank you for the link, as it allowed me to change the remix in question to a license I believe is compatible with all samples.
