Hello ccmixters,
i know it is legal to use classic music, but one point is for me quite unclear: for example i have a CD of "the lake of swans" of Cajikovskij played by The Philadelphia Orchestra (director Riccardo Muti). Is it legal to sample from that such of cd some interesting pieces to put in my remix?

Thanks,
-Francesco Stablum aka stab

P.S. i am sorry for my poor english

no, you can´t use any samples from that cd…….the copyright on the music itself probably has expired, but there ist still a copyright on the performance and recording itself…..for full information check:
www.copyright.gov……..that´s for the us……

yea, you should be extra careful no matter what — just because something is in "classical" part of the record store does not automatically means it isn’t owned by somebody.
