hmmmmm … most of the stems would not be legal and tender uploads.

Did upload two stripped down tracks and recorded samples. Track 1 is bass, drums, horns, hits and some of the synth parts. Tracks 2 is bass and drums except for one section which is a rhythm sample with multiple instruments. The third zip file includes ElRon’s guitar samples and my Korg samples plus a couple Doru Malaia power hits.

Funk to the max! And those horns are amazing. Where do they come from?

Except for the last bridge where the horns are embed in a rhythm section sample, the horns are samples cut, pasted and layered into the song a note, partial phrase or phrase at a time. Some layered notes are midi driven soundfonts, called “betterbrass.sf2” and “strght_mute_bone.sf2” aka Trombone Langtons Muted.

If you listen to the horns in the bass-drums-horns-synths upload you can hear how Fankensteined they are.

Your stuff is so tight and complex. We’ve spoken of Zappa before…. This is a prime example. Love it!

Thanks again for the Zappa analogy. One of my favorite composers when he used big bands.

Excellent song! But - sorry for picking out this one - it lacks of a proper ending. It deserves something bigger than just fading out.

Due to the fact that a pretty lot of very cool songs at ccmixter do use fade outs - are outros harder to compose than intros?

Outros are not more difficult to craft than intros. We choose fade outs when we think it is an appropriate ending as we did in this case. Some times we choose fade ins.

I don’t think of fading out as an alternative to a well crafted ending, it is just another type of ending that sometimes fits well in the opinion of the composer/mixer.

Never thought about the percentage of ccMixter songs that fade out.

Wrt this song “deserving” a bigger ending. I will have to think about that.
