I absolutely adore this mix. The best take on this pella for me so far.
My only production itch is that the vocals are heavily delayed left and right and the delicacy of the vocal gets lost in the great production. As its a classic song setting some central position for them would work better. But one of your best spin , you never said you could play guitar ?. :-) LS |

Thanks for your very kind words, LS. Quote: LoveshadowMy only production itch is that the vocals are heavily delayed left and right and the delicacy of the vocal gets lost in the great production.
And thanks for your feedback on the vocal track - as a result I just re-did that to tone it down on the left/right and the delay. Hopefully it sounds better now. Quote: Loveshadow you never said you could play guitar ? I used to play guitar years ago, and am just trying to re-acquaint myself a little. There’s a lot of rust to be dealt with :-) |

you or the guitar ? It sounds great spin. Well worth redoing that vocal position to my ears. |

the guitar is brand new, so it must be me :-)

What I like about this is the “live” feeling you have created but LS is right that vox treatment is a real no! no! I listened on headphones and I started to get sea sick (and I’m on land!!)
I’d redo this as it spoils a really nice mix. |

I’d redo this as it spoils a really nice mix. Thanks for your feedback, RT - I most certainly don’t want you to toss your cookies, so I just re-did the vocal track and re-uploaded a hopefully less sea-sickening version. :-) |

Now that’s better and I can put the bucket away!!!

I can second LS and as well RT and this is what TJ is thinking about it else: Beautiful guitar and bass playin. Especially these two elements give the track a very authentic mood. This is a great performance.
You don_t have to hide these skills behind a huge arrangement. I can also imagine it as a guitar plus piano and bass version. So I would say, your very “unplugged” version is only a few mouseclicks away :-). Despite of this, I can second only LS, so far as I know the best version heard here. |
.
Thanks for your kind words, TJ! I hope you heard the fixed vocal track version. However my guitar and bass playing are both very limited after years of rust accumulation. That’s why I’m not quite comfortable having those carry the entire song. :-)

Wonderfull Spin! Now it sounds like having a real little band playing this charming tune. All my respect that you took some advices and changed the song now to a reduced but for my taste a very clear and fitting arrangement. I love especially this little solo duett of guitar and piano from 1:20 till 1:40. Very charming part!
No rust hearable!!;-) Nice one, you can be very proud of. Attention, next time I will ask you for a few guitar tracks!! |

.
thanks TJ! - shouldn’t you be sleeping after a long day’s work?

There’s a very charming naive quality to this that really suits the song (hope that doesn’t sound patronising, it’s meant as a compliment!)

I do have to admit that I didn’t feel the beat/feel at first, it was a little jarring because it was so unexpected. But when the accordion (sp?) started it fell into place and made perfect sense.
And, yea, I agree with others, feel free to lose the strings. They sound ok as long as they are buried but when they poke out to the front they sound synthy - something I more guilty than anybody but worth saying. Don’t worry about the playing, it’s fine - In my version of this pell you can hear the guitar hit the mic ferkrissake lol |

thanks for the kind review 4S! Quote: fourstonesAnd, yea, I agree with others, feel free to lose the strings.

I agree with old Dog’s comment. It was nice to hear a song that was clearly intended to be lovely…I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the listen.

thanks for your kind remark, AM! Although after this one I may need a serious fix of 4 on the floor pounding mayhem :-)

Wow Spin—I got this big grin on my face when I heard your guitar playing—such a nice suprise. This all works really well, the piano, bass, accordian all so nicely placed.
A great conversation going here as well, I would have liked to hear the two previous uploads to see how it developed. Well done Sir. |

Thanks for your so very kind words, AT!

What an enchanting mix. Lots has been said and all the positives I agree with and the negatives seem to have been rectified in the ears of some, which alone is astounding, talk about instant gratification :-).
One thing I was thinking was that your choice of instrumental voices has managed to tap into the spanish lyrics with references to Spanish speaking cultures, right down to the Andean pipes (were they? - tell me they were real too :-) - they were nicely processed with a real open airy decay). Another thing that I think really shines here is the musical and emotional build-up as the song progresses. Dropping the strings brought it down a little from the stratospheric heights it was reaching, but that’s probably a good thing (although I was getting swept away by those harmonies). Yup this one’s a keeper alright. But I do agree with some of the others that if possible, for the education and edification of us folks who still need to learn a lot, it would be great to have the full evolution. Unfortunately I was at work today so couldn’t download the earlier ones fast enough. |
.
Thank you so much for your kind feedback Essesq!
Quote: essesqit would be great to have the full evolution and as has become the pattern for this remix, when two people ask for it, it shall be done! (You can now find the previous remixes under the Download link!) I can only hope that VS will not get too upset about the wasted disk space with the older versions, but this entire thread has been a bit of a wonderful example of what can happen when fellow music makers get to talk about and refine their work in this remarkable place called ccMixter. |
|
.
“Wasted disk space” … hmmm … How can an opportunity to educate and share be a waste of disk space? I’m sure that even the site administrator realizes the value in such sharing, eh Fourstones? If it helps, I’ll grab my downloads shortly and you can pull them after a week or two :-).

Hahah - this is a treat and a half.
I agree that the track really comes into its right when the accordion enters - it’s a beautiful element to tie it all together. Beautifully done. |
.
thanks Colab! I’m still hoping you might upload the backing track of your version separately (clicking on the “Manage Files” link) to upload additional files under the same master file). :-)
