I’m really glad PorachCat put this together because it gives everybody a chance to stretch into areas that would not normally happen (which is huge). I can see you trying out new things here, I don’t think the sounds always come together as seemlessly as they could — maybe comes from being overwhelmed with so much material — but I’d encourage you to keep trying to blend sounds in other remixes.

Thanks for the encouragement. I agree it’s really valuable to stretch outside comfort zones - some lessons learned while doing these secret mixes will influence future mixes….my biggest challenge right now is just continuing the transition from “trying things & getting lucky when they sound good” to “I hear this in my head, and I know how to make it happen” (i.e. what instrument, sample, effect, technique to use). That and just learning the 8 chord families ;). I’m more able to be deliberate than I was a year ago, but I still have a long way to go….. .. .

You should without a doubt work in this direction again. It’s fantastic!! It vaguely resembles a lot of great artists, but has a distinct sound. Definately a solid feel to the piece and it grabs the attention. Lots of little surprises here and there. On critique, I would work on trying to blend the sounds a little more, in some parts the mix is a little rough and things sound like they’re trying to compete with each other. Also, the ending could be a little smoother. Mind you, these are both things I’m still trying to work on in my own music. :-P Thanks for joining in again!

Hey, it’s the host!….thanks for putting this on, and thanks for the cool review. I’m glad you hear some potential, and I appreciate the feedback. I totally agree about the need for better blend/mixing….still working on my production skills….I sort of know theoretically how to use EQ & automations on channels/effects and other things that might have helped, but I’m not fast enough yet (lots of trial and error and I often still don’t achieve quite what I have in mind). I have just a little time some nights late night, so it’s slow going, but I’m having a good time learning….. .. .
