The "tabla" is a 2-chamber drum I bought in the Moroccan section of Disney World/EPCOT (haha, of all places) in 2002, plus a Toca drum. I also used an empty cigarette box filled with thumb tacks and a screw driver to scrape another tool handle. All that, plus slapping my guitar lightly.
Original Samples
These were on-the-fly recordings into Garageband with a metronome in my ears.
Process
I did do some minor quantization (1/64) of each sample, then played around with balance, EQ, compression, stereo imaging, reverb, and in some cases, a faint stereo delay.
