Process

I had a lot of fun with this. Inspired by Javolenus’ acoustic riff in E minor, my challenge to myself was to do everything with my old Washburn acoustic (mainly because I don’t have an electric guitar at the moment!) I channeled every influence from the 60s. The heavily echoic popping lead emulates the sound of a single I owned way back by John Mayall (B-side of “Picture on the wall”… maybe “Jenny”?)
Even the shredded stuff (that Hendrix-style tritone devil’s chord) is just acoustic guitar recorded on Garageband’s “Megaphone” filter.
For the ultimate nostalgia I added the vinyl crackles which always accompanied my music back then.
I found it quite liberating to pick up the guitar again after some months, play loose and percussionless and improvising without the chord-change.
If anyone wants to add a vocal track – be my guest. I always seem to be uploading either words or shakuhachi, so I’m happy to let someone else do the lyrics for a change!
As ever, thanks to Javolenus for the inspirational jumping-off point.
