Process

Other than the vocals, this is all just sequencing and processing. The bass plays a four bar riff that is constant throughout. Bass and snares on the drum is also constant. The ride and hi hat (or there electronic equivalents at least) get progressively denser towards the last verse of the poem. There are two pads that get cross-faded slowly, again shooting for the last verse for the switch. The idea was to combine repetitive parts with slowly changing parts to create the ambient feel.

Other Notes

I was trying to play a bass line something similar to what Dave Holland plays on Herbie Hancock's River, but ended up with a 4 bar riff that repeats throughout. If I had it to do over again, I'd try for a little more variety here. Granted, I was playing keys instead of a real bass, but I doubt Mr Holland would repeat the same four bars for 4 minutes...
