How I Did It
Tools I Used
Sonar, Toontrack Ezdrummer, Liquid Instuments Liquid Bass, Impact Soundworks Sitar Nation
Original Samples
keyboards, indian sitar and tanpura
Process
I just purchased Sitar Nation because I am fond of Indian culture and music, and I wanted to use it straight on CG's december voice. I wanted to do a very experimental track, but when I was in the middle of the song I realized that drums were so messy that nobody could follow the complex sitar part and the odd rythm, so I deleted it all and opted for a safe 4/4 pop, less interesting but much more joyful. I played keyboards over it and then searched my friends' collaboration as usual, then put it all together and master it
Other Notes
I'm not satysfied by the drum rolls that act as fill-ins, because a digital overload forced me to compress them heavily and they lose life. Also keyboards and drums had to be compressed int he break and it is a pity. I made up my mind to do a less 0 peak version on a CD version of the track, to fight the "loudness race", as Bob Kats says it, and give back the natural dynamics to this song. But as an mp3, I must stay high in loudness, because everybody does it and it's likely that the mp3 will go into someone's collection side-by-side other mp3s.
