Process
About two months ago, I started playing around with the idea of making a birthday song for my daughter out of one or two simple phrases, in varying melodies (pella loops?), rather than the typical verse, chorus format. I recorded the pella tracks with a general idea in my head of a backing arrangement that would help make it work, but when it comes to playing instruments, I fall short in the talent department. I posted my pellas a few weeks ago, kind of hoping that someone would create something original for it. In the end, it seems that Victor Stone did just that without even realizing it with his recent remixes of Snowflake's Pool of Love song. I am grateful, because I was really starting to rack my brain searching for samples that would work.
The stems from Cactus Swell seemed to fit perfectly with the kind of vibe I was aiming for, and his Nulounge Treatment helped give it that extra touch. What's more, my daughter absolutely loves Cactus Swell (listens to the Cool Music Show with me in the car) and started singing along the first time she heard it. How could I not use Cactus Swell?
I used Audacity to speed up the tempo of the stems, then plugged them into M-Audio Session, for the cutting and pasting.
Once I started on that part of the project, I realized just how pitchy I was with my pellas. No wonder nobody wanted to touch them! I don't blame anyone for steering clear of something sung out of tune.... :) I plan on tweaking the pellas to improve the pitch. Hopefully, with some help from Audacity, I won't have to resing the vocals...
