Samples I Used

The listed samples.

Process

I converted "Ash Wednesday" by Cheryl Ann Fulton to wave format.
Then I loaded a section of this wave into Sawcutter 2.0. This became the "keyboard" sound, which was a pleasant morph of the harp.

I sequenced the melody on Sawcutter 2.0, and then went to search out 84 bpm percussion samples that might fit with this 83.9 bpm melody. I used the ccmixter.org samples browser to locate the two Trifonic 84 bpm percussion sections. I wanted to give the song a "nature" sound, so I went to the Freesound Project website to hunt mp3s which might provide the right backing sounds.
I found the "back yard" sample, which met my need. Then I placed the two percussion samples and the field recording samples on three tracks, and the keyboard melody on a fourth track. I then edited out sections of each of the three non-keyboard samples, as I think that with such a simple song the variation of sections of silence from the backing percussion and field recordings helps to add variety to the piece.

Other Notes

Today I took a blue line surface rail train from Collin County down to White Rock Lake. Tonight I visit White Rock Lake again in song.
