How I Did It

more...Tools I Used
XV-5050, Music Creator 2003, ACID Studio 5.0, Wavelab Lite
Samples I Used
just the SuziQ sample found here
Original Samples
the organ, drum, piano, and bass tracks
Process
1. download pella
2. import into ACID, render as WAV
3. open w/ WaveLab Lite, trim and tweak for EQ, BPM, save
4. import into Music Creator, set BPM, loop to match one-shot WAV
5. find best patches in XV-5050 for intended overall sound, jam along until reasonably decent accompaniment emerges track-by track (I tend to try to minimize the need to quantize; I'd rather re-record a sloppy take or hand-slide a few off-notes than let the program make me lazy- my keyboard skills need all the practice they can get!)
6. Adjust level, velocity, pan, reverb, etc. as needed for a balanced mix between the different midi tracks as well as the imported WAV
7. At this point you can either record each track as a separate WAV for further fine-tuning or simply mixdown to stereo using WaveLab's record button in either case.
8. Bring everything back into ACID, tweak as needed, and render as mp3 to taste.
Other Notes
being a bass player as well as amateur guitar- drum- piano- organ-basher, I love playing live instruments as much as I love sampling/remixing/sequencing etc. I wanted to give a natural live feel to the track, and while patches are no substitute for the real thing, it is possible to create something listenable in this day and age...
