Happy Birthday ccMixter!!!!!
Thank you Ben for your rich and inspiring catalog. Thank you Haskel for the dusting of fine guitar stylings you added to the mix. This track is built on Ben’s gorgeous remix of JansMusic’s Brooklyn. SENSE Feel how it is right now even though it may be hard to do It will change — things always do Life moves you — moves through you Taking time to sense Cuz we are sentient And knowing is a sense we can sense into Sense into Feel what it is right now that doesn’t hurt so bad Perhaps a bit less sad And let that soothe you Feel what it is right now that doesn’t hurt so bad Perhaps a bit less sad And let that soothe you Taking time to sense Cuz we are sentient And knowing is a sense we can sense into Life moves you *** Thank you to everyone at ccMixter who has created and sustains this special space on the internet. Since I started sharing music at ccMixter 15 years ago, my world has expanded exponentially - musically and personally. Being part of this community enriches creativity, expression and heart as deep and enduring connections are made. It was my intention to make an upbeat, celebratory track for our 20th anniversary! But the muse did not lead me there at all. I have been having writer’s block and this event came during the Jewish High Holidays while I was contemplating tsheuva — the practice of atonement and forgiveness. Then I spent a weekend at trauma camp (that’s my endearment for the trauma healing trainings I regularly support as a teaching assistant). Then there is the state of the world… Ben’s sensitive and moving remix Brooklyn provided the perfect feel for what I was feeling and quickly became the ambience for the song to emerge. While I was wrestling with my creative process, I repeatedly received Hexagram 52 during my daily IChing practice. Hexagram 52 represents meditation/stillness and the binding/completion of a chapter. It teaches the time of meditation is a time for contemplating how we arrived where we are at, appreciating the lessons and preparing for the next chapter. It asks us to sense into the matter to receive enlightenment. This track was created by sensing into it — the feel, the rhythm. The subject matter reflects how deep I am in the world of trauma healing as I continue to study and work in that field. When there are a lot of challenging or conflicting feelings, particularly when there are hard circumstances, acknowledging reality and then finding a “pocket of peace” through the senses enhances our capacity to be with whatever is happening so that even when external circumstances remain the same, we can experience a shift internally.
