Please join the Break the Silence Remix Event!

When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.” ~Jimi Hendrix

All around the world, voices cry out and fists are raised — the silence of oppression is breaking and a new song is being sung. Its lyrics call for us to reach into our hearts with soulful demand for equality, justice and human rights. The power of love is a banner held high, catching the wind and spreading to all corners of the world.

Free speech carries with it some freedom to listen.” ~Bob Marley

We listen. We learn. The old ways can no longer bear the scrutiny of our eyes and we cannot turn away blindly from systems that have long discriminated against the Black members of our human family. BIPOC unjustly suffer in a world where white privilege and enforcement of the status quo have been continually perpetuated by those in power.

The silent sidelines of complacency and denial are no place for those who truly care.

Music is our change agent. Our voices, melodies and rhythms are anthems to Break the Silence.

The point of protest music is not to shift the world on its axis but to change opinions and perspectives, to say something about the times in which you live, and, sometimes, to find that what you’ve said speaks to another moment in history.” ~ Dorian Lynskey

In our ccMixter community, our recent remix events have been an onramp to this moment, expressing our desire to unify, to universally connect, to catalyze. We long for a world of peace, brotherhood and sisterhood, compassion, and change.

Break the Silence is an event providing an opportunity for our music to speak truth to power, and for our community to listen anew in support of those whose voices are offered up toward a vision of inclusive peace and justice.

Submit pells and samples from June 7 -21 and remixes from June 21 - July 5. However, as with all events, pells, samples and remixes for Break the Silence are welcome anytime.

EVENT EXTENDED THROUGH JULY 18. Submit your remix & it might be selected for inclusion in an album.

Special thanks to long-time community member Michael Burnz for starting us off with his powerful new verse, BLM HERE. And a warm welcome to NYU music student grad AcrylicBathhouse with great thanks for contributing artful stems HERE.

Our ccMixter community is an inclusive, supportive space where we create and collaborate together. We are grateful.

Together, we can Break the Silence — with music.

My song Love and Equality is in the acapella section, but it would be on the remix page if I was allowed to put it there… just don’t want it to get lost in the shuffle.

It’s such a great track! It’s in the correct place, since there aren’t stems from another Mixter in it. However, we could add it to the ‘samples’ section if you add your music stems. Let me know if you do and I’ll be happy to tag it!

Another thing you could do is include it in a remix. Then in your remix description, you could add a link to the pell upload.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this event!
There was a huge variety of remixes submitted by a diverse group of artists.
Rounding up, I donated $60 to Black Lives Matter on behalf of the ccMixter community.
Thank you again, we couldn’t have done it without you!
