Tools I Used

A Fender Telecaster, P-Bass, GarageBand

Samples I Used

Baby Guitar by Subhashish Panigrahi

Original Samples

Three guitar parts and a bass.

Process

The original had moments that sounded like a guitar, but it mostly didn't. I thought it might be neat to "guitar it up" a little so that it sounded entirely like a pure guitar piece.

I took apart pieces of Baby Guitar, and quantized them to 110 bpm - the U2 type cut first, then the low shimmery bit, and then the sparkly sound. I added a delay to them so they didn't sound cut off.

Then I added a guitar with a virtual twin type amp, added a slapback locked to the tempo, to sort of bring out more of the sparkly sounds from Baby Guitar, but with more authenticity. I left out about four bars of space. I used the middle switch on the Telecaster.

Then I came back in and added a swamp rock type part on the neck pickup with a Surf tone into the gaps between the echoey sound I had just added.

Then I added a Lonnie Mack type of guitar solo on top of later parts of the mix.

Finally, added steady accented pulses on the bass.

Other Notes

Yup - sounds like guitars now.
