Process

I wrote this song coming out of a fallow period. I'm in a space where I am not quite sure how I want to approach music right now. I sat down to just to a simple demo -- acoustic guitar, voice -- maybe one harmony. It clearly didn't work out that way. I found the Admiral's simple yet perfect drum track. I recorded myself playing acoustic which was rather plodding, but it set down the chord changes. I recorded some rough vocals, and test harmonies. Then I recorded the bass part. I started playing around with the vocals some more exploring the feeling of the song, what I wanted to convey with tone, melody and harmony. Then I asked Haskel if he would play guitar. He came up with parts that inho make the song. I dumped my acoustic guitar part. As the song evolved, I felt like it need something else to add to the emotional tug and pull inherant in the lyric -- Peter A's cello part fit the bill perfectly. I used to FB cymbal's to help point to the drama in the song. The glock adds a light, rythmic touch. I really wanted to add some tambourine or some other percussion in the bridge. . .I also try some different approaches to producing the vocals based on some tips provided to me by Timberman.

Other Notes

This is essentially a demo, I think. I just don't have the producing chops or technical infrastructure to make a really polished track.
