Nice South-American thing going on. A bit quiet vocals in some places, but the vibe is utterly cool. Love it!

It’s a common problem for all of us. Yeah the key is one is too close to one’s own mixes. It’s much easier to pick up details with fresh ears rather than when you are mixing yourself. I have remixes I was very pleased at the momement of making it, but some weeks later I’m amazed of what crappy mixes I’ve made.

By the way, I can give you a one of the “secrets” that may get vocals cut through more easily without going into tedious volume riding or editing. Group drums, other instruments and vocals in to #3 separate groups and EQ a 2 to 4 dB drop somewhere around 1-2 kHz range (depends on vocals) in the “Other instruments”. You have to mess around with the Q-value, but you could get vocals cut through without too much noticable difference on the overall picture.
This is just a quick fix, but it can work on many occasions when one’s too lazy to do more work on the vocal tracks. ;) There are many other tricks, but they involve more work. |
