Samples I Used
I created all the samples except the spoken word track. The central melody is a Coagula Light morph into sound of a photograph.
Process
I took a black and white digital photograph of a woman's face, and turned it into a bitmap. Then I used the bitmap to create a wave file using Coagula Light, the "color tone organ". I took the resulting wave file and turned it into a MIDI file using Wave Goodbye. I placed the resulting MIDI file in the Anvil Studio sequencer and attached the Shepherd VST. I took a section of the resulting sample, and placed it in the Sawcutter 2.0 synth. I created the central melody of this piece in the Sawcutter 2.0 sequencer. I applied dynamic effects and a "telephone" equalizer effect in my MAGIX audio studio 10 to Colin's spoken word track. I used several field recordings from my freesound uploads to add various atmospherics, and also to create the percussive lesser tracks in the Sawcutter 2.0 sample.
The key sample from which I created the melody is uploaded at the Freesound Project as "faux theremin sample",for those who, as I do, enjoy altering things in samplers.
Other Notes
I dislike trimming back spoken word tracks, but here I found it interesting to try to edit the tracks down to a core of ideas for easier assimilation into the piece.
