Process
Brought in Victor's guitar and bass and stretched it out to 4 mins. or so I bringing it in a second time. Put Victor's guitar part through a Fender Twin reverb to vintage it up a little.
Brought in Stefsax's bariphone-like Sax part, changed the pitch from Bb to C, and changed the tempo from 120 to 104. Chopped it up and placed the ba-dup line on the one for three bars, with some extra notes on every fourth.
Took his Alto solo, did the same pitch and tempo shift, and pasted an extra couple of lines onto the end to get it to fit the break.
Added a rhythm wah-wah, and then a lead using the Korg expression pedal.
Then I wrote a lyric and sang until my voice was raw!
Other Notes
This was actually my main style of music making - vintage soul - for about twenty years. Surprisingly, I haven't done much of it at CCMixter, so I'm glad to get something up that represents such a big part of my background.
