I find too often that the security keys are impossible to actually get right. Can’t a slightly easier font be used, or an alternate capcha system.

Sorry you’re having problems, yes, we’ve had several complaints about it, but it won’t be replaced anytime in the immediate future.

For now, keep in mind that there are only sixteen total characters:

0-9 A-F

The 0 (zero) has a line through it. the D does not.
