Sweet! and Yea I’m surprised, surprised to see you here in the remix listing at all. I thought you were locked up in the forum section of the site. :-)

You’ve achieved your usual happy pop sensibility with a huge difference here. I recognize your great leap and applaud you for it, because I can only guess how hard you worked to achieve it and how much you had to convince yourself to actually record what was in your head and your fingers. You should be glad you did, you did a great job.

There’s something in the fx you applied to the guitars that along with being “surfy” also reminds me of Brian Eno’s album “Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy” if memory serves me right. Not a bad thing at all.

Excellent, and yes - I’m surprised too. Just a terrific choice and use of instruments, and the harmonies are a great fit for Jacinda’s vocals.

I like this very, very much. One of my all-time favourites of yours.

Straight and wonderful pop music!
That_s the refreshing breeze a summer song needs. Really like what you have done on the guitar especially the 60s sound towards the end.Bravo Spin!

My only minor nags are: The hihat could run straight in the chorus and there could have been some more powerchords too imho.

Thank you so much, TJ! lol - powerchords? I’m still working my way up to those! Maybe I’ll try to come up with some of those for my next remix! :-)

Straighter HH in the chorus might work, although there’s a lot of 8ths feel already happening. I’ll have to try that.

spin, man just go on & be your bad self. how many hooks in this song, just the right amount. how many outstanding singer/songwriters featured, the right one.

Congrats on the ed. I know that guitar only remixes can be hard to do, because you have to hear it all in your head first, and then get the guitar to cooperate.

I’m guessing from the whammy and the sound of the clean surf tones that it is some sort of Strat or Jag?

jacinda’s vocal is really good, it has to be said.

.
permalink   spinmeister Wed, Jun 16, 2010 @ 5:35 PM
Thanks AB! The guitar is a Paul Reed Smith 513, which indeed has a whammy bar and also allows me to configure the pickups in single coil (pretty much like a Strat) mode or in two different configurations of humbucking (one clean and one dirty humbucking).

I used a little of each. The main driving riff is in humbucking config and the surf sounds are in single coil mode.

And yes, isn’t Jacinda’s vocal great? Good pop songs are hard to write, and I really think she nailed it with this song.

Lovin it. Great sounding pop tune. Funny, I thought I would be the only one to submit a pop remix this month.

No synths? Tons of guitars? I’ve entered another dimension! A dimension of sound. A dimension of mind. A dimension of awesome pop hooks. Well done my friend.

Oooh - immaculate, Spin. Jacinda’s vocal, sweet and passionate by turns, works fabulously well set to your fast-flowing b/t with that exciting, insistent pulse. This is another perfect one for driving down to the coast in an open-topped car. Meet me at Durdle Door by moonlight ……. xxxx

Most expert balance of Vocal and EFX keeping that dry signal nicely in your face.

You’ve entered Fleetwood Mac Territory , and sound very comfortable and at home there.

The brilliant writer on whose work this song is based told me about this remix before I caught it. She was pretty excited to hear it, and so am I. Awesome work. Seriously, I’m sort of speechless… and the new guitar is RAD!

Thank you so much, Jacinda! And I’m very happy to hear that the original source for your inspiration also seems to approve. I was a little nervous tackling it for several reasons, one of them being, that I wasn’t quite sure, how you and your original muse would perceive this relatively energetic and positive musical take on what seems lyrically a bit more complicated.

My relationship with guitar playing is also a little complicated — so at least that’s a match. :-)

This song of yours is (imho) one of the really great pop songs here at ccM. Thanks for uploading it! And I’ve long been a closet admirer of your work - so at least now the truth is out!

I think that the beauty of putting songs up here is that they do so often come back in a completely different skin. This song, and some others, have given me serious trouble in arranging them. When I put them up here, I come back with not only awesome presents in the form of awesome mixes I can show off to my friends and relations, but also with a fresh perspective and context in which to play.

The short version of that is that I’m delighted to hear such a different arrangement of this, and especially one as ace as this.

And oh my! well now that the cat is out of the bag. I’m an admirer of yours as well! So there!
