This is fantastic Susan! Love those backup harmonies…classic, sweet, and soulful!!

Thanks Jeris. I am finding myself increasing much more comfortable singing harmonies than anything else. I get lost in the layers I suppose.

You do r’n’b so very well, SJ, and there’s great support from Jeris and Unreal. A lovely song with lovely sentiments - sung with understated but real feeling and the harmonies, of course, are faultless.

Thanks Ciggi. I actually don’t believe I do r’n’b very well at all — but I do love it. Originally,I was looking for something dark and moody to sing along to but I came upon this track by Jeris and it spoke to me… so here it is. Thanks for your kind words and support. I really appreciate it.

This is gorgeous Susan! And I love the lyrics.

I’m curious…did you have the melody before you decided on the backing track, or did you sing to the backing track so that the melody emerged?

Thanks so much Deb. Most appreciated esepcially at this time (as you can likely glean from the lyric). I did not have a meldoy in mind for this song — it totally emerged from the music. I was actually looking for something a bit moodier and slower when I wrote the lyric, but when I came upon this track by Jeris I just loved it. I also reworked the lyric as well to go with the rhythm of the track.

I agree with Ciggi on this - you do this very, very well. The backing track is a perfect backing for your vocals here.

My only nag is that you don’t give yourself enough room in the mix to shine. Your vocals should be centre piece in the mix, and instead they compete with all the instruments, rather than being backed up by them.

It’s a lovely track. Making the tweaks to bring the vocals more to the front would just make it shine even more.

I completely agree! Great vocals that should power through the mix :-) wanna upload the stems? :-)
Great work!
Cheers!

Thanks KF. I did upload the vocal stems ( here). The instrumental was not shared with stems so I was not able to do much with that (although Jeris kindly forwarded the stems to me…although I’m not sure I have adequate producer skills to tackle them).

And then based on encouragement from you and Colab, I tried to tweak this track a bit. It could use further production refinements though.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Thank you Colab for such an encouraging comment. I appreciate it very much.

I tweaked the track a bit by educing some of the reverb, playingwith eq settings and compression settings as well on the lead vocal. I am sure this track could benefit from further production refinement though.

Wonder what it would be like with the original idea of putting it to a darker moodier backing track. Hmm… I might give that a try.

Thanks so much. The production itself could use some work though. I’m hoping evenutally a real producer will make it all sound better.

Gently done well, you’ve got a touch of the seventies, which goes well with the excellent background track, at the same time the voice is fresh and enjoyable. very good
