radiotimes 980 Reviews	. permalink Fri, Aug 24, 2012 @ 5:15 AM When I was 11 yrs old I persuaded my parents to get me a guitar. They did but it was closer to a cheese cutter than an acoustic guitar. As I gradually broke strings my parents refusal to buy me any new ones left me with no alternative but to tell my friends in our new “band” that I was going the Django way and playing with less fingers, so therefore I needed less strings!! Seems to me the lack of a string or two won’t stop you turning out some good work.

My parents wouldn’t buy me one, so I sold my old toys/games till I raised the princely sum of £10, which bought me the cheapest guitar in town. I’m left-handed and this guitar was right-handed—I restrung the guitar myself and made a right old botch of it! I borrowed a book on guitar chords and practised till my fingers bled. But you try telling kids today and they won’t believe you!!!
