Process
These samples weren't created to sound "nice". I actually have no idea what I'm doing with them, how they come out is by just complete accident. Read what I have to say about the samples, if you can help me with creating the type of sound I'm looking for, let me know.
.:The Beat:.
Just start by getting down a good drum loop. You don't need too but you can add a simple instrument loop to the background like I did.
.:The Effects:.
-Snare-
The three main 'mda' plugins that you'll use are: Dither, Bandisto, and Degrade. You'll also be using dblue Glitch once the sample has been effected.
|-|Dither|-| You'll want to turn 'Word Len' to around 8 bits, turn 'Dither' Off, and then 'Zoom', depending how much fuzz you want, to around -5db.
|-|Bandisto|-| Honestly, just mess around with the settings until you find something you like. You have a lot of freedom with this one.
|-|Degrade|-| Put 'Headroom' to -5db, 'Quant' to 10 bits, and 'Output' to 4. The rest of the settings you can mess around with if you wish.
|-|dblue Glitch|-| To obtain the drawn out snare, you'll want to use an alternating pattern of 'Reverse', and 'Stretch'. Mess around with the settings of each effect respectively until you find you what you like.
You can add an 'Overdrive' to the snare as well to give it some more 'pop' along with minor distortion.
-Snare 2-
Snare 2 is just the same as one, except it's a different sample. Instead of a snare drum sample, it's actually a crash/bang, and it doesn't have any dblue Glitch.
-Kick-
The kick is basically just the same thing as the snare. A few settings are changed, but most of it is in dblue Glitch. You'll also want to use 'Fruity Bass Boost' and 'Fruity Compressor' to make it stand out more.
|-|Dither|-| Raise the bits from the snare's 8 to something a little higher so you can hear it better.
|-|dblue Glitch|-| Instead of a 'Reverse' and 'Strecth' effect, I used a simple 'Gater' and 'Crusher'. Unlike with the snare, instead of having the effect alternate, I loaded dblue Glitch twice and had each effect play for the entire sample.
-Kick 2-
You'll want to keep one kick fairly normal. This will add some depth to your samples making for a fuller sound. You can effect it how you want, but don't go overboard.
-Hats-
Pretty simple. Again, use the standard mda setup to degrade them. I didn't bother with dblue Glitch because I liked the way they sound already, but you can tweak them however you want.
-Synth/Cello-
You don't need to have these, but you can if you'd like. I was just messing around with some effects to see what I can create, ended up putting the 'Fruity Phaser' on both the synth and cello. The synth has a small overdrive on it. And the cello has a slightly modified setup of the mda degrade. Since this area isn't what is to be focused on, I won't go into detail on it.
Other Notes
More than one snare/kick sample was used to create each single sample. Remember this when creating your own. You'll need to be the judge on which you choose to effect and not.
*I don't guarantee these settings will yield the same results. I may have done some other process while creating them, that I missed in this 'How I Did It', sorry!
