Tools I Used

Reaper, M-Audio Keystudio, Fender Telecaster, Fender P-Bass

Samples I Used

Clarence Simpson's "Just As I Will" (piano, organ, and drums.)

Original Samples

The bass, organ solo middle break, a rhythm guitar part, and the lead guitar. Oh and the vocal (uploaded as a pella.)

Process

I listened to all the pieces in the original upload. Decided to replace the bass with a real bass, as I wanted to achieve something very Earthy.

So I added the drums, organ, and piano of the original, copied some extra measures in, and played along on the bass. Then I added a rhythm guitar part with a bit of tremolo on it. Then I wrote a lyric and sang it. I added an additional organ to the spot where the piano dips out (where I extended the mix with extra measures), and then thought about whether to use Clarence's guitars at the double time end: liked them, but decided to stick with Earthy, and something that a scat could cut through.

Other Notes

I actually think this turned out rather well. It has become a genuine gospel piece, and I am grateful for that.

One major goof: the soldier's name is Longinus. I called him "Socinus" in the sung part, who is a crewman in Battlestar Galactica. Oops.
