I searched the archives for something with cc-attribution licensing and found this terrific DoKashiteru electro lofi anthem.
The kids and I agreed this would be perfect for something we feel very strongly about.

The lyrics were hard to spit out without being too preachy, but I think we might have done it.

The message is simple.

Sustainable energy practices make sense from every viewpoint; its saves the Earth by not adding to the C02 in the atmosphere, and it also frees our dependency on non renewable finite resources and the socio political complications they entail.

Its funny that the kids seem to see this already as a “no brainer”. ie plainly obvious. A bit like the remote control on the Tivo.
Its time to realise that this could be our new “independence day” and if we don’t act now, the price later on will be much greater.

[End rant here]

Keys in D/A Maj and 118 BPM.

Here’s the words. Big points to the kids who inherit the Earth; Alex and Madeline.

This is Independence Day

today
a lesson learned
no need to change the way we live
a wheel has turned

That gasoline
all cheap not clean
I’m sure you’ve heard
the Earth she groans
beneath our feet
our footprint burned….

I feel
the time has come
the sum of many different parts
a larger sum

Dont take from her
more than we earn
from fields we run
burn carbon with a conscience now
beneath the sun.

So tell your children
this could be
our independence day
our hands together
its now or never
with no price to pay

I feel
the time has come
the sum of many different paths
has just begun

Won’t take from her
not rightly ours
with loaded gun
The Captains table
lights are on
but no ones home
(the damage has been done)

This is independence day

I feel
the time has come
the sum of many different paths
a larger sum

Dont take from her
more than we earn
from fields we run
burn carbon with a conscience now
beneath the sun.

So tell your children
this could be our independence day
join hands together
its now or never
with no price to pay

this is independence day
the sum of many different lives
this is independence day

today
a lesson learned
no need to change the way we live
the wheel has turned
Its independence day

No gasoline
Its independence day
the Earth she breathes
beneath our feet
and footprints play

This is independence day!

Peace x
