Thanks for posting this. I did find it interesting.
I spent probably way too much time trying to figure out what percentage of uploads get more than twenty recommends (my arbitrary definition of a big ccm hit). Best I could figure was somewhere between ten and twelve percent. I was going to next figure what percent above ten recommends but by then I realized I was wasting too much time on a pointless endeavor. The one thing that really caught my attention was how many uploads were used in videos. No numbers but… a lot. |

Not to bake your noodle too much…if this kind of analysis is worth doing, it might be worth controlling for how long something has been posted and the year in which it was posted. If I get one recommend per year over the course of 20 years that seems different from 20 in a year where the median recommend number exceeds one (or five or ten). If you really wanted to, you might be able to plot it somewheres on a continuum from classic (steady, big) to cult classic (steady, small) to flash in the pan (unstable, big).
