Ideally: How do I access the old pell and sample browsers?

Sufficient: How do I search (by title, artist, and tag) pells and samples in the beta version the site is now pushing? (Which I really find borderline unusable compared to the old versions. It looks pretty but it’s a bear to navigate and amounts to blind browsing, which is time consuming and extremely frustrating to the point that I’m looking at other options to itch my remix scratch and I love ccMixter. It obviously has a nice backend, the player works wonderfully, and the design is lovely. But the UI is just… not good, I’m sorry to say. :( It’s just not functional for me right now as a mixer. I want to make my sporadic contributions, but it’s being made difficult for me right now.)

On usability notes:
Why do I have to click through an artist’s name and then on the sample from that page to get to the sample page in the sample browser? That should be a direct link from the name in the listings. (Even better if somehow the description and tags could be listed in the browser, but a direct link to the sample page would work.)

Why are tags not clickable like in the old version/mainsite listings? That really undercuts usability.

There were a few other things I ran into as well, but that’s what is sticking out in mind right now. The frustration was really killing the fun for me.

Sort of solution. I just remembered an old hack/workaround. It is still functional.

Nice workaround! I’ve been a secret fan of the tag could and couldn’t remember how to get there. I hope the beta version, when finished has the same, if not better search and find capabilities as the old version. I’m sure it will. Until then I’m happy to have this option.

Also glad to know you’re itchin’ to produce a remix!

It’s a kludge, but it works for sorting through by tags. That’s a very nice bit of functionality coded in by Victor (I believe) long ago. It’s not the interface for the tag cloud like the old version with all the nice clicking and sortable lists, but it gets the job done. Plus blind guessing some tag combos, while less than ideal for efficiencyn, is kind of fun. :) And there’s the big cloud to get ya started.

There’s a related kludge for that too!

ccmixter.org/people/[MIXTER]/[TAG]

For example, my pells:
http://ccmixter.org/people/...

My tracks tagged “weird”:
http://ccmixter.org/people/...

You can also do [TAG]+[TAG] (results show tracks with both tags):
http://ccmixter.org/people/...
