I’ve always just clicked the speaker icon and an upload would play with only the small player showing itself right where the speaker is/was. Now, since yesterday, a new page opens and plays the upload, a big empty page of black, with an address such as http://ccmixter.org/api/que... Anybody know why this is? Did I inadvertently change a default setting somewhere?

Are you using Chrome? Flash support may be turned off.
