Sweet and down to earth, and such nice clean takes :)

I was wondering, are you using two different types of guitars?

Yes—-two different guitars:

The strumming guitar is a Fender “Hellcat” 12-string with only 6 strings on.

The melody guitar is a Taylor GS-Mini.

Both guitars are “electro-acoustic” and were each recorded on two tracks: one track is a direct connection from the inbuilt condenser mic to the soundcard; the other track is an AKG condenser mic placed oblique to the guitar. Then both these tracks are bounced down to a single “dry” track.

Both guitars were recorded this way and the resulting “takes” panned left & right, and with some compression & chorus added.

Nice! I like the timbre of 12 strings, sometimes it sounds like 2 guitars at once (gee I wonder why LOL).
When you place the contact mics on the guitar, do you have to permanently change the surface or drill holes? I’ve thought about gluing one to my old nylon string, in order to eliminate noise between the mic and the guitar.

Yes, recording acoustic guitar is tricky.

I remember, in the past, it was possible to get self-adhesive contact microphones to stick on your guitar. Maybe it’s still possible to buy them some place?

These days, however, I use guitars with built-in pick-ups that I connect to the soundcard with a regular cable. But in order to add a more “ambient” element, I also place a regular mic in front of the guitar (I just lay the mic on a desk and sit with the guitar nearby). I then mix these two tracks together to make a composite track.

Magical playing that reaches down into the very soul of the listener.

Always love the folk ballads and you do them so well
