The eyes are one of the softest organs that humans need to protect. Without eyes one is effectively disabled, and limited to a relatively small scope of actions, as humans are definitely visually based. Almost all of our measuring instruments have a visual component, and reading is virtually dependent on sight. And this ignores our art, which generally has a visual component that is as important if not more so than the other aspects involved. Eye protection goggles are thus extremely important in preserving that sight.
