How I Did It
Uses samples from:
Tools I Used
Reaper, Audacity, Dell laptop running windows 7.
Various plug-ins, including heavy use of MDA DubDelay. ReaTune was used to extract midi from audio to feed the soft synths and also on the vocals during the first section.
Fabfilter was used for the bell like synth.
Dominator was used for the other synth sounds.
Samples I Used
Just the samples from the sample pack.
Original Samples
The drum loops and hits are from my own collection.
Process
Went through the samples and pulled out various vocal phrases and the sax/clarinet parts that I liked. Matched these to the slightly lower tempo of the project. Started off as a hip hop mix, I added the double time loops to change things up a bit, mixing these with the original tempo. The bass parts were created using soft synths mixed with samples from the original track heavily processed. The metallic vocal effect I'd used before but actually processed 2 different phrases through the short delay which blended well.
Other Notes
I feel my drum parts are getting better, i used to throw about 50 different loops into a track, but kept this fairly simple. It's always interesting working on other peoples work and I didn't hear the full original before doing the remix, it's sometimes better not to be too influenced by the original feel.
