Arrangement / mixing in Ableton Live - great for cutting up and stretching the vocal samples!
Samples I Used
Vocal sample from Snowflake from CC Mixter. A few backing drum lopps used and cut up from free sample pack.
Original Samples
Main drum riff, basslines, synth pad leads and piano all written to go with the vocal.
Process
The beat, bassline and vocal were put together first and the rest of the music was put together later. The piano outro was an afterthought as I couldn't decide how to end the track!
Other Notes
I tend to write instrumental music, so working with vocals is a new challenge. There are some beautiful vocal samples available on CCMixter so it's something I'll definitely be doing again! Having a strong vocal definitely takes the pressure off trying to write a catchy lead hook...
