Over twenty years ago I experienced the beginning of a very deep connection to Gandhi. I made a lot of changes in my life as a result, and am still making them. Because of Gandhi I’ve practiced Ahimsa for more than two decades — singing and marching for peace at some of the world’s biggest protests. Gandhi’s version of nonviolence isn’t passive or weak. It requires we rise up for the force that is positive and just. I’m unsure exactly how Gandhi would rise up for peace in the Ukraine, but I’m fairly certain he wouldn’t take it lying down. Perhaps the world will find a way to stop Putin’s insanity. I have to hope we can. Our voices matter. They ring out around the world, our music reaches people we’ve never met and is heard in places we’ve never been. That’s difficult to process but it really inspires me to create with all of you. Javolenus, you knocked this out of the park. Would love to play it live one day — perhaps on a stage calling for peace.
