At the root of man’s inhumanity to man
Is the failure to recognize
Our commonality of purpose
In this endeavor called life.
When there no longer is other
The pain of harm
Is felt in our souls
The cost of pain
Is paid from our pockets
The loss is borne by all of us
And we are the lesser for it.

To cure what ails us
We must look deeply
Into our own hearts
And into each others.
Where we differ
We must seek understanding,
And where we agree
We must seek progress.

Working together,
For a common good,
Will not only strike at the roots of societal evil,
It will eradicate it,
And replace it
With a mighty tree
Whose fruit will feed our future dreams.
