Bluemillenium is a robust contributor to ccMixter with a vast and eclectic library of remixes and samples. I had started in an entirely different direction that involved cutting and splicing and making all kinds of loops. I was getting frustrated by my limitations, but foraged on. As I continued to peruse Blue’s uploads looking for what might fit, I came across this piece and it made everything I was doing sound awful. This lush dreamy music swept me away and inspired me anew.

Thank you Bluemillenium for sharing your talents so freely.

This is a recent poem that felt like a gift. It was written while I took my dog for a walk in my neighborhood. I have been negotiating the effects of being a world citizen in a time of chaos, degradation, violence and dissolution. But amid all of that, beauty and peace still exist — sometimes in the simplest of ways.

I added vocals and bird song from my neighborhood. Everything else is Bluemillenium’s track, otherwise structurally untouched.

SONG OF SHABBAT

There were butterflies
and dragonflies
and the shadows of the birds that fly above.

We smiled, and we said hello
fueled by grace, our hearts were full.
The breeze was soft.
Ozmanta waft.
Songbirds sang the song of shabbat.

We passed two black crows —
an ominous sign?
or the reflection of an opening into the wisdom that the shadow brings?

Listening. .

We were not alone.
There were families.
An audible hum of copious bees enjoying a surfeit of blossoming trees
reminding me to get busy.

Songbirds sing the song of shabbat
a day of rest from what is wrong.

(“Shabbat” means “sabbath)
