No easier way to get out of yourself than to dig someone else. I love Carosone. I always think of him as “Caro Carosone” because he is such a dear.

Anyway, I have been kind of struggling a bit with the project, and have a number of half-started songs going. It’s not that I haven’t been inspired. It’s just that I’ve been tired. And I’ve become somewhat inert as I contemplate the theme. Identity. It’s so easy to get lost in that great big morass of perception. Isn’t that what it is ultimately about? How we see and how we are seen?

In the end, I found it easier to treat myself to remixing someone else than trying to finish something I started. But who knows which way the wind will blow, and maybe some of these other tunes that have been simmering may finish cooking up, eventually.

This was a very quick mix. The challenge was to beat the inertia and just get something done. So it’s imperfect. But then, so am I. Imperfection is a cornerstone of my identity.
