Kara and Panu, two ‘real folks’. Perfect musical match-up. Very nicely done.

I mean this song from Panu is really wonderful and I like the makeup of the backing track. No complicated chords, straightforward rhythm - wonderful released bridge.
And your horn play….melting….:D

Right?! I adore this song from Panu. I’m glad you liked the backing track… you inspired quite a bit of it! (Like the trumpet solo!) I wish I could claim the horn playing, but I must admit that I didn’t dig out my ol’ trombone for this one… MIDI to the rescue! ;)

Likewise, my friend. I’m so glad you like this. I was a wee bit nervous… really wanted to do something respectful. Your voice is so delightful to work with, Mr. Thank you!

Panu was one of the first artists that captured me in my earliest dabbling into ccMixter (oh those many years ago). the intelligent sincerity of his vocals and the captivating nature of his creative, storytelling lyrics spoke deeply to me. this mix reminds me of those early moments here at ccM. you’ve done some amazing work on this Kara. the piano hook holds it down and i love, love the xylophone (?). what a great drum track too. and you’ve built the arrangement in such a well-crafted way. the horn melody is so moving! i love when the percussion enters, creating such a wonderful dynamic for the ending. bravo!!!

Thank ya’ so much, snow! Ditto to your thoughts on Panu’s vocals and songwriting. :))) The xylophone type sound is called “Bell Play 1 Comp” in the plugin I used for most of the piece (minus some drum loops). The plugin is IK’s Miroslav Philharmonik. Thanks for all of your detailed thoughts! SO nice!!

I love how you kept it simple. Leaving Panu to tell the story. Great production skills :)

Thanks so much. I often feel that less can be more… and so… I’m really glad the simplicity of the arrangement stands out positively to you!

Kara — this track is such a testament to your development as a producer. The arrangement is superb — everything is well placed with sonic details that support and move the song-story, all the while keeping Panu’s rich voice front and center. YOur did a great job integrating the orchestral elements. And thanks for sharing the info on yor source for the bells (one of my favorite sounds) Bravo my dear on a job well done!

The contrast between what might seem like the cheerful backing track to a kickstarter campaign video, and the brutal, fragile misery of panu’s vocal portrait of alcoholism, throws a strong light on the difference between external appearance and internal reality.. conspiracy between society and self to make a world of two-legged Potemkin villages.
